Pouakai (Haast Eagle)

The Haast Eagle, once prominent as an aerial predator throughout New Zealand and so large it nearly dwarfed the sky, is sadly now extinct.

Enter Steve Rumore to create a full-scale (3 meter wingspan!) homage, complete with steady glide as this graceful and terrifying giant once again rides the New Zealand wind.

Steve named this work of art "Pouakai," the name by which the Maori call this legendary winged wonder.

Considerable detail is crafted into the Eagle's facial features.
