About This Sculpture
 
Desktop Updraft brings the elegance and movement of our signature Updraft sculpture into an accessible form for smaller spaces. Designed to sit perfectly indoors on a desk, shelf, or tabletop, this kinetic sculpture captures the power and grace of the New Zealand Hawk (Kahu) while allowing its wings to undulate gently with the slightest air movement. It is a beautiful, calming presence for any home or office.
 
This model has been crafted with care to retain the 360 degree range of motion and the artistry of our larger sized Updraft models, offering the same sense of connection to nature in a space-conscious design.
 
The body of every bird is handbuilt by our skilled metal artisans, and every counter weight is matched to each bird for perfect balance. This makes every Desktop Updraft unique.
 
In the region where we live, gliding hawks (Kahu) commonly dot the skies. When we behold them a sense of awe, grace, and calm washes over us. The same way the alchemy of the natural element fire draws us in, we find the invisible element of wind acting on a visible object draws us in. This is our way to share this experience with you!

Desktop Updraft is made with corten steel and includes a mild steel counter weight. We can customise this to accommodate up to a wingspan width of 500mm for the Desktop model. For information about larger sizes up to 3m wingspans robust for outdoor settings, please see our Updraft sculpture. We can create specific finishes or sizes to suit.
